Ajinomoto aims to become a global corporation in food and amino acid products from its
origins in Japan. With this goal in mind, Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co., Ltd. was established
on October 1, 2000 in order to promote new development of the Ajinomoto Group in the 21st
century. The frozen foods market, which is expected to experience stable growth, is
becoming increasingly competitive due to the entry of companies from other industries and
foreign corporations, as well. As a result, it is necessary to enhance cost competitiveness
and marketing strategies, and accelerate product development, based on improvement of
materials procurement and processing technology.
Against this background, in November 2000, Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co., Ltd. established
Lianyungang Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co., Ltd. in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China as a
joint venture within the Ajinomoto Group. To commemorate the completion of a \1 billion yen
production facility, a ceremony will be held on December 6, 2001. Administrative officials
from the city of Lianyungang,including Mayer ,are expected to attend.
Incorporating Ajinomoto's food processing technology as well as competitive materials
procurement and costs in China, Lianyungang Ajinomoto Ruyi Foods Co., Ltd. was established
in 1995 and primarily produces prepared vegetable products such as Renkon no Hasamiage. The
new company will produce prepared chicken products, prepared vegetable products and other
prepared frozen foods. The two companies have a combined production capacity of
approximately 9,000 tons, more than double the previous level, and are expected to enlarge
to export from China to Japan. In addition, the range of chicken products will be expanded
more by producing in China and Thailand, and will be provided various and valuable product
lineup.
