Selection to the SRI Index

Being selected to be a member of the SRI (socially responsible investment) index, a collection of highly trusted corporations in terms of ethical, environmental, employment, safety, and other practices, is proof of our company's high social trust and sound financial position.
The Ajinomoto Group has been acclaimed by various SRI assessment groups globally and selected to be part of SRI indices in and outside Japan. We will continue to work on CSR activities that leverage our core strengths, hold ourselves firmly accountable, and do our share in sustainable community development.

Labor Practices

FY2018 Nadeshiko Brands

Ajinomoto Co., Inc.

The Nadeshiko Brand is an initiative aiming to introduce certain Tokyo Stock Exchange ("TSE")-listed enterprises that are outstanding in terms of encouraging the empowerment of women in workplace as attractive stocks for investors who emphasize improving corporate value in the mid and long-term, thereby further enhancing the interests of investors in such outstanding enterprises and accelerating enterprises’ efforts to encourage the empowerment of women in the workplace. METI and the TSE have been jointly conducted this initiative since FY2012. In this fiscal year, 42 companies were selected from each industry from approximately 3,600 listed companies on the TSE, and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was selected for the second consecutive year in the fishery, agroforestry and food industries.

2019 Certified Health and Productivity Management Organization Recognition (‘White 500’ large enterprise category)

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. and Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co., Inc.

The Certified Health and Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program honors large enterprises, SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and other organizations with exceptional Health and Productivity Management(※) practices based on their contributions to addressing community health-related challenges and implementing the health awareness efforts of Nippon Kenko Kaigi. By increasing the visibility of such organizations, the program seeks to increase public recognition—from employees, job seekers, industry partners, and financial institutions—of their work in promoting employee health and productivity from a strategic management perspective. In 2019, 821 organizations were selected for the large enterprise category (White 500); Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was chosen for the third consecutive year, and Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co., Inc. was chosen for the first time.

2019 Health & Productivity Stock Selection

The Health & Productivity Stock Selection is a list of Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed enterprises chosen for their work in promoting employee health and productivity from a strategic management perspective. Chosen on a one-company-per-industry basis, it aims to promote corporations working on “Health and Productivity Management” and to introduce the selected enterprises as an attractive investment option for investors who prioritize the improvement of corporate value over the long run. In 2019, 37 companies from 28 industries were selected; Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was selected to represent the food industry for the third consecutive year.

The 21st NIKKEI Annual Report Awards "Award for Excellence"

The "NIKKEI Annual Report Awards 2018" is a competition to commend the particularly outstanding annual reports issued by Japanese companies. Active institutional investors conduct screenings and evaluate each company's annual reports from various aspects such as the business portfolio and the level of financial data. In 2018, the 21st year, 100 reports were reviewed, and “Ajinomoto Group Integrated Report 2018,” “ASV STORIES 2018” and “Ajinomoto Group Sustainability Data Book 2018” received “Award for Excellence.”

22nd Environmental Communication Awards (Minister of Environment Prize)

The Environmental Communication Awards are given to reports that have contributed significantly to the advancement of environmental management, communication, and information disclosure in the business sector. In 2018, the 22nd year, there were 314 submissions in total, including 118 in the environmental activity report category and 196 in the environmental report category. “Ajinomoto Group Integrated Report 2018,” “ASV STORIES 2018” and “Ajinomoto Group Sustainability Data Book 2018” were chosen for the Minister of Environment Prize in the environmental report category.

RobecoSAM Sustainability Award 2019「Bronze Class (Food Products)」

The RobecoSAM Sustainability Award is given by RobecoSAM, a Swiss research institution that evaluates companies' efforts in sustainability from the economic, environmental, and social perspective. RobecoSAM selects the top companies from each sector into three categories: Gold Class, Silver Class, and Bronze Class. Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was awarded the Bronze Class in 2019 among 108 companies in the Food Products sector.

"Award for Excellence in Integrated Reporting,” started in 2013 by WICI Japan, the Japan chapter of World Intellectual Capital/Assets Initiative ("WICI"), has been one of driving force to promote integrated reporting activities in Japan, which aims to improve interactive communication with stakeholders of business entities and improve the sustainability of business entities and society through clear and concise business reporting. In 2018, the sixth year, "Ajinomoto Group Integrated Report 2018" has received "Award for Excellence in Integrated Reporting.”

"Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare's awards for enterprises that promote telework" is awarded to companies, organizations and individuals who have achieved remarkable results in achieving work-life balance of workers by telework. In 2018, the 4th year, 1 “Excellent Prize”, 3 “Special Incentive Awards” and 2 “Individual Awards” were granted, and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. received "Excellent Prize" which is commendation to company/group with outstanding initiatives.
