Being selected to be a member of the SRI (socially responsible investment) index, a collection of highly trusted corporations in terms of ethical, environmental, employment, safety, and other practices, is proof of our company's high social trust and sound financial position.
The Ajinomoto Group has been acclaimed by various SRI assessment groups globally and selected to be part of SRI indices in and outside Japan. We will continue to work on activities that leverage our core strengths, hold ourselves firmly accountable, and do our share in sustainable community development.

Award of Excellence for Sustainability Reports from Global Environmental Forum President, 20th Environmental Communication Awards

The Environmental Communication Awards is an awards program recognizing exceptional environmental reports with the aim of encouraging businesses and others to practice environmental management and communication, and improving the quality of environment-related information disclosure. For the 20th Awards, there were a total of 338 applications evaluated: 217 for the environmental report category and 121 for the environmental practices report category. Ajinomoto Co., Inc. received the Award of Excellence for Sustainability Reports from Global Environmental Forum President for both the Ajinomoto Group Integrated Report 2016 and Ajinomoto Group Sustainability Data Book 2016.

RobecoSAM Sustainability Award 2016「Bronze Class(Food Products)」

The RobecoSAM Sustainability Award is an annual corporate sustainability rating conducted by RobecoSAM, an assessment body based in Switzerland. It evaluates corporate actions and information disclosure level on sustainability from the economic, environmental, and social perspective, and rates the top companies from each sector into three categories: Gold Class, Silver Class, and Bronze Class. In 2016, 3,426 companies in 59 industries were evaluated, and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was awarded the Bronze Class in the Food Products sector.

Grand Prize in the 5th Japan HR Challenge Awards

The Japan HR Challenge Awards recognize businesses that have actively taken outstanding new initiatives in the field of human resources with the aim of invigorating Japanese society. On its fifth year, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. won the grand prize from a total of 85 applications. With the average age of Japan's human resources at 45 years old and an average life expectancy of almost 90, the company advocates employees to continue to provide value to society by utilizing skills over a lifetime. Ajinomoto Co., Inc. was awarded for its initiatives to build a systematic program for career autonomy aimed at reactivating the potential of middle and senior managers, and to improve productivity and creativity founded on career autonomy.

MAFF Minister's Prize at the 13th Eco-Products Awards

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. and Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group, Inc.

The Eco-Products Awards reward outstanding products and services that reduce environmental impact (also known as eco-products). With the aim of promoting further growth of eco-products, the committee publicizes eco-products information to consumers and supports corporate and other initiatives supplying these products. The MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) Minister's Award is one of four grand prizes. The Group was commended for optimizing the nutrients of feeds while lowering environmental impact through efficient amino acid use. This was achieved by fortifying corn, an affordable feed, with feed-use lysine. Its contribution to the development of an emissions offset credit scheme, which provides an incentive for livestock producers to use feed-use amino acids in Japan, was also highly regarded.

MLIT Minister's Award under the 2016 Excellent Green Logistics Commendation Program

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. with nine other companies

The Green Logistics Commendation Program honors distinguished achievements of forwarders that lower the logistics sector's environmental impact and promote a distribution productivity innovation. Ajinomoto Co., Inc. and nine other companies were awarded the MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) Minister's Award for building and operating the F-LINE project, a platform for sustainable food products distribution. Through the collaboration of six food manufacturers, this initiative achieved labor savings and cut CO2 emissions by improving the infrastructure side by modal shift, cooperative delivery systems, etc. and the soft skills side by standardizing the food industry's systems and rules for distribution processes from production to delivery and sales. CO2 emissions were cut by 19.1% or 216 tonnes per year through this initiative. The F-LINE project also received the MLIT's 2016 Minister's Award for Excellent Forwarders on Environmental Conservation in Transportation.

METI Minister's Award, 42nd Awards for Resources Recirculation Technologies and Systems


The Awards for Resources Recirculation Technologies and Systems aim to encourage recirculating businesses by giving incentives to promote initiatives and businesses that lead in providing advanced technologies and systems which contribute to reducing waste, reusing used products, and recycling resources. AJINOMOTO GENERAL FOODS, INC. was awarded the METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) Minister's Award for its initiative introducing plastic bottles made of 100% recycled, heat-resistant PET resin for all major AGF bottled coffee products. This full recycling technology is expected to reduce petroleum use for raw materials equivalent by roughly 2,000 tonnes a year.
